If you are into cars or even just the internet for that matter, you have undoubtedly heard of Hoonigan. In 2011 professional rally driver and co-founder of DC Shoes, Ken Block teamed up with automotive journalist Brian Scotto to create what would become the biggest automotive entertainment brand in the world - Hoonigan Industries. Block's unmatched driving talent, Scotto's extensive media knowledge, and the power of Youtube, quickly propelled the Hoonigan brand to an audience base of over 4.7 million people. Their content has amassed over 895 million views and is currently averaging 634,000 views daily.
In 2017, Microsoft wanted to take the Holden Ute from it's Forza Motorsport 7 video game, bring it to real life, and display it at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. We got a call from Hoonigan a week before SEMA, just after they started building the car. They sent over some artwork, we rounded up some materials, and hit the road for Long Beach. It was definitely a bit of a challenge to wrap the car as is was getting built. Wheels getting fitted, up and down on the lift, body kit still going on, fender trimming, motor going in and out, nitrous getting plumbed, bedliner getting sprayed, and a camera crew, there was a lot going on. We managed to get the car into its new matte charcoal gray at the Donut Garage and put it on a transporter. The car made it to Vegas just in time for load-in and we layed the chrome flames on at 3:00 in the morning in a convention center parking lot.
Love it or hate it, it most certainly served it's purpose and got a lot of attention as it greeted visitors at the entrance of the SEMA show that year. Hoonigan featured the UTE a total of seven times on their "Daily Transmission" series and it raked in a cool 3.9 million views.
